'Podeok' is a simplification of the phrase to disseminate on earth the virtue and goodness of the heavenly Hanulnim. It conveys the general meaning of the proselytizing missionary efforts of Chondogyo. Furthermore, the founder of Chondogyo, Su-un Choe Je-u, first received the Do(Dao or way) from Hanulnim(the term for God in the Chondogyo faith) in 1860. Therefore, the year of Chondogyo's founding is Podeok, or 1860.
