    CHONDOGYO ORGANIZATION AND CANONICAL WRITINGS

The Chondogyo Central Church Headquarters functions as the representative organ of Chondogyo. Cheondo-gyo operates under the democratic principle of 'rule by majority?unified under a centralized governing body. Central Church Headquarters is composed of two main branches. The one pertaining mainly to administrative affairs contains the Church Head Office(Church Executive Office or Gyoryeongsa, 敎領司), the Office of Religion(Hyeongisa, 玄機司), the Office of Religious Affairs(Jongmuweon, 宗務院), the religious congress(Jongeuiweon, 宗議院) and the Office of the Superintendent(Gamsaweon, 監査院). The second branch is devoted to spiritual affairs and involves the general congregation, referred to as the Spiritual Clan Assem-bly(Yeonweonhoe, 淵源會).
The highest deliberative body in Central Church Headquarters meets once every three years as the National Church Congress(全國代議員大會). At this meeting, repre-sentatives of the church(the church head, church congress representatives, and the central superintendent) are selected, and department heads named by the church leader formally appointed. Subsidiary offices of Central Church Headquarters, such as the regional parishes and missionary offices entrusted with edification of church members and spreading the work of the church, operate mainly under the direction of the parish head. On Serving Day(Siil, 侍日 or Sunday), members of each parish gather at the church assembly for the regularly scheduled Serviec Day Meeting. In addition, places for the instruction and training of church members exist here and there throughout the country. The Spiritual Clan Assembly is comprised of the Dojeong (Main Chogregation, 道正) and the Dohun(Students of the Way, 道訓). Heading these two parts of the congregation are the Teacher of Religious Doctrine(宗法師, Jongbeopsa) and the Proclaimer of the Way(宣道師, Seondosa), each of whom are appointed at the meeting of the National Church Congress.
Branch organizations of the church include the Youth Society(靑年會), Women's Society(女性會), Disciple of the Way Center(宗學院), and the Donghak National Unification Society(東學民族統一會). The publishing branch of the church(新人間, Siningansa, or New Humanity Publishing) produces the monthly New Humanity and Chondogyo Monthly(天道敎月報, Chondogyo Weolbo). Operating independently from Central Church Headquarters is the Chondogyo Maintenance Branch (天道敎維持財團) entrusted with church fund raising.
In Gyeongju is the Yongdam Holy Site (龍潭聖地, Yongdamseongji) where Chondogyo has its beginnings, and which is the place of the Great Master Su-un Choe Je-u's birth. At various sites throughout the country are historical markers of the Donghak Revolution.
The canonical writings of Chondogyo are Donghak Scripture(東經大全, Donggyeongdaejeon) and the Songs of Yongdam(龍潭遺詞, Yongdamyusa), both written by Great Master Su-un; the Sermons of Master Haeweol (海月神師法說, Haeweolsinsabeopseol) by the second supreme leader of Chondogyo, Haeweol Choe Si-hyeong; and the Sermons of Revered Teacher Euiam(義菴聖師法說, Euiamseongsabeopseol) by the third supreme leader of Chondogyo, Euiam Son Byeon-heui.
